Pongamia glabra or Karanja Oil is a close cousin to Neem and is cold expressed oil from the Pongom Tree which is native to India and Southeast Asia. It plays a significant and integral part in Ayurevedic medicine (inflammation, wound coagulation, hemorrhoids, skin disorders) and traditional folk medicines of Asia (detoxification) The oil itself is golden brown and of moderate viscosity with a quick absorption rate. It is anti bacterial and anti-fungal and is very useful for scalp conditions such as minor irritation and dandruff. Karanja is found in many western cosmetic and medicinal products and acts as an astringent protecting the hydro lipid scalp barrier and providing UV protection to the hair to help prevent color fade and loss (both natural and dyed).
