Navajo Greasewood Salve

Navajo Herbalist Virginia Boone-Marcus makes this product in the traditional manner, by hand and says the following about it, “This ointment/salve can be used to help alleviate many different skin conditions. Its main use is to provide relief from the symptoms of eczema and psoriasis. In some cases it can clear up eczema and often soothes the itch and dryness experienced with psoriasis. This salve is also very effective at treating some varieties of pre-cancerous skin lesions ({We} need to stress that the modern medical system always recommends that any skin cancer be professionally examined to insure that is not malignant). [I]t is also effective at relieving the symptoms of athlete’s foot and when used continuously for at least one month it can even cure toenail fungus.” Greasewood bush grows throughout the desert regions of Arizona. It blooms twice a year filling the desert with yellow flowers and then white puffs of wispy seed. Navajos gather these bushes by hand using cotton cloths. They then strip the fresh green leaves from the stems which have appeared right before full bloom. When full, the bags are emptied into a drying house. Once dried, the leaves are crushed and any remaining stems are separated out before hand grinding. The finely ground Greasewood leaves are then mixed with Organic Calendula Flower, Shea nut butter, Jojoba oil, Organic oils of Sunflower, Coconut, Avocado, Kukui nut and all natural vitamin E.
